The purpose of Adium is to simplify access to existing messaging services that are on the Internet. From its interface you can access such popular networks such as MSN, Yahoo, Jabber or AIM.
A security mechanism called OTR can encrypt conversations, so that you may enjoy privacy in your chat sessions.
The chat window has support for tabs, allowing you to group multiple conversations into one and file transfers, and even do this in beta.
The organization of the contacts and the chat window have interesting features that are not found in other messaging applications. The contacts are arranged in a group, and the chat window makes it easier to follow the discussion by grouping several messages in a single block.
